Human Rights in Scotland
Human rights are often confidently discussed when matters relate to other countries. People appear less confident about discussing and addressing human rights issues in Scotland.
Human rights are defined by European and global standards but we can interpret them to meet Scotland's needs. People will notice a difference when human rights are at the core of service delivery.
Everyone's human rights should be equally respected and protected in Scotland and that means understanding what those rights are and the public sectors' duties such as in health, social work, housing and education. Human rights are important in communities too as we have a duty to respect each other's rights e.g. to privacy.
